Conversations in Our Pits

Updated: May 13, 2022

ISN’T IT STRANGE that often our best times of discovery are the moments in which we may be at our lowest? It is in the deep dark depths of our soul that the richest soils of revelation and/or discovery can be made. It is in those places that much of the outside world is quieted and we find ourselves in conversation with ourselves. Those times in conversation can be the most important conversations of our lives. They can be the most honest. They can be raw and real and move us in ways we may otherwise never know.

BEWARE HOWEVER. Sometimes we find ourselves in conversation with FEAR. Sometimes with Doubt. Sometimes with GUILT. Sometimes SHAME will want to converse with us. Sometimes RESENTMENT will want to give voice. Sometimes TRUAMA will sit in. Sometimes we find ourselves in conversation with the ENEMY of ourselves and the ENEMY of this world.

SO, BEWARE. Instead, invite LOVE. Invite GRACE. Invite STRENGTH to sit. Invite HOPE into your conversation. Invite PEACE. Invite the One who loves you more than you or I will ever fully understand. Invite the One in which no dark hole, no “height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”. The One who “as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love”. The One who has forgiven and “blots out your transgressions and remembers your sins no more.” The One who only wants to be with you and does not ask anything from you other than to BELIEVE, to have FAITH.

As strange as I may sound appreciate the “low” moments in your life, the “pits”. They CAN be fertile and rich in our discovery of better understanding ourselves and most importantly one-on-one time with the One who is Love and most longs to sit with us, no matter how deep our pits may be.
