Instead of following your heart learn to lead it. The world says to follow your heart, but if we follow it we may find ourselves making wrong decisions or in places we never intended or wanted to be. The Bible says that “the heart is more deceitful then all else”, (Jeremiah 17:9), and it will always pursue that which feels right at the moment. But what feels right may not be right.
In my life not always leading my heart has caused pain for myself and pain for those I love. Yes, we are never perfect. We make mistakes but we have God’s grace, His amazing mercy, His love, which covers all. However, ourselves, and others may have consequences from our wrong decisions which often come from the deceitful heart.
So….learn to Lead Your Heart not be Lead by it. It is deceitful above all else. Instead, do what is right. Often what is right will not be the easiest path. It often does not “feel” the best. It sometimes does not feel fair. That is why our greatest desire in life should not be to feel good or pursue happiness but to love and pursue God with no greater pursuit. From that place we will be able to better identify our hearts deceitfulness. Our greatest desire won’t be to satisfy what the heart wants but what God wants. Our love and obedience for God acts like a filter filtering out hopefully the wrong desires and decisions we find ourselves wrestling with. Instead our desire is to do what He would have us do not what our heart may be telling us to do. . . . . and what we can be sure God wants us to do is to Love Him and LOVE OTHERS WELL despite what our heart may be telling us.
Lead Your Heart DON’T be lead by it.
